Why Ground School?

In a nutshell - because there is a demand for it and no-one else is offering it.

There is more to flying a balloon than passing the PPL examinations. In training you will pick up much from the pilot and Instructor during the mandatory four flights. However, while the balloon basket is the ideal environment to learn to fly, it does not provide the opportunity for in-depth learning. Books cover much of what you need to know but they don't cover everything. Nor are they a substitute for an active learning environment.
